New PS3 Firmware 1.6 details revealed
Monday, March 19, 2007 Posted By: Jake

1. PlayStation 3: Firmware 1.6 update details
The Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) - Image 1Sony has just provided more details regarding the PlayStation 3's upcoming Firmware 1.6 update. First up is a minor adjustment for the update's release date. Previously set for a March 23 release - the same day as the PS3 launch in Europe - 1.6 will be available as downloadable content come March 22.

Moving on to FW 1.6's updates, it has been reported that it will allow the PS3 to do other functions while you're downloading content - expect far less game session interruptions in the near future. Sony's also adding an option for a full-size keyboard on the system menu, which should make text input easier for those uncomfortable with the PS3's default cellphone-style interface.

Firmware 1.6 will also carry updates for the PS3's web browser, which includes a capability to detect the user's video-out settings and to set standard font sizes accordingly. Also new is a point-and-zoom feature for examining web pages in-depth. There's also the matter of the added support for Folding@home - Stanford University's ongoing project to use part of the PS3's massive cell processing power to study protein folding to help further research into diseases like Alzheimer s Disease, Parkinson s Disease, and Huntington's Disease.

Lastly, we reiterate on 1.6's update to the Remote Play function on the PlayStation Portable. In earlier firmware versions of Sony's PS3, PSP owners could only hook up wirelessly to the 60GB model so long as they were within its sensor range. In the upcoming 1.6 update, PSP owners can opt to use WiFi hotspots to connect with their PS3, which not only allows for greater mobility, but also allows 20GB owners to partake in the fun. Set your calendars for March 22.

Sega Rally for PS3
Wednesday, March 14, 2007 Posted By: Jake

Details may have been real scarce for Sega's upcoming racer, Sega Rally, but now it has bounced back to give us the official fact sheet for the game along with all-new screens for the PS3 version of the game. Some say that the keen attention to environment details (take the richness of the chocolate-like mud for example) may be comparable to MotorStorm but perhaps it's still too early to tell, eh?

Sega Rally is slated for release for the PS3, Xbox360, and PC Autumn this year. So while we wait for that, here are some of the key game features you might wanna read up on:
  • Bumper to bumper Rally racing - show your competitive side by racing with multiple cars and track racing bumper to bumper across Rally inspired environments.
  • Deformation - Fully deformable environments & surfaces that will ensure no two laps will be the same.
  • Speed & adrenaline - Wide variety of looping tracks, surface types, and vehicles including 4WD, 2WD & Classic vehicles.
  • Environments - Eight different environments inspired by exotic locations all over the world.
  • Competition - Advanced AI, multiplayer and online capabilities
  • Immediacy - Arcade accessibility with simulation depth.

GRAW 2 official trailer released
Tuesday, March 06, 2007 Posted By: Jake

"With Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2's launch nearly banging at our doors, Ubisoft has released another treat. The GRAW 2's launch trailer hits just a few days before the release.

Of course, PS3 and PC fans of the Tom Clancy franchise would have to wait a little bit longer. But hey, it's all worth it. In the launch trailer, we see the team getting orders to do recon on the Mexican insurgence near the US border. As with the other Ghost Recon titles, GRAW 2 has the insane action with all the explosions and gunfight. We really can't expect them not to engage when they're being shot at, can we?

Are you ready? GRAW 2 is about to hit the shelves and it's bound to hit the ground running. We'll shut up now, so you can watch the launch trailer. Enjoy!"

Battlefield: Bad Company is a war game, but this time around you are not fighting for freedom, your country, or even survival really. This time you are fighting for cash! Grand Theft Auto 4
Posted By: Jake

Grand Theft Auto IV news is beginning to trickle out bit by bit! As you can see, the box art has now been released. In this same release, Rockstar Games has announced that the PS3 version along with the Xbox 360 version will be released at the same time. This is good news for Xbox fans but not so much for us PS3 fans. It was kind of nice when the GTA titles came out for PS systems first.

Another bit of unfortunate news is that the game's release date may be pushed back from Oct. 2007 until the beginning of 2008! I was a bit disappointed to hear this news because I have been pumped about the release of the game since it was first announced several months ago.

I wish I had more news for you, but Rockstar is still being rather shy about the details at this point. From what I hear, we have an excellent title headed our way!
